The City of Kentwood Inspections Department is seeking qualified applicants for a full-time Plumbing and Rental Inspector position. The Plumbing and Rental Inspector responsibilities include the following:

  • Inspects new and existing industrial, commercial, and/or residential properties, rental inspections, and/or other building and construction for conformance to codes, regulations, plans, specifications, and standards.
  • Confers with and provides information to developers, engineers, architects, property owners and others regarding code requirements and alternatives and City policies and procedures.
  • Performs rental property inspections in accordance with codes.
  • Reviews plans and specifications for buildings and related construction involving installation, remodeling, replacement and repair for use in performance of inspections.
  • Documents and maintains accurate records of inspections, actions taken and regulatory efforts; prepares written reports and correspondence and issues notices to correct code violations.
  • Works with legal staff to prepare cases of violations; testifies in court as required.
  • Maintains knowledge of construction technology, methods and materials; updates code knowledge through regular training sessions.
  • Uses a computer to enter plan submittal data and develop and manage databases and/or spreadsheet files and report formats.
  • Contributes to the efficiency and effectiveness of the unit's service to its customers by offering suggestions and directing or participating as an active member of a work team.
  • Required to drive a vehicle to and from other City facilities to provide services.
  • Demonstrates courteous and cooperative behavior when interacting with public and staff; acts in a manner that promotes a harmonious and effective workplace environment.

Qualified applicants will possess all the following:

  • Michigan Driver's License.
  • State of Michigan license as a Plumbing Inspector.
  • high school diploma/GED and completion of an apprenticeship; AND
  • two (2) years of journey-level experience in the plumbing trade; OR
  • an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

This is a full-time position with excellent benefits. The hours are 8:00 am to 5:00 pm, Monday through Friday. The pay range for this position is $26.96 to $34.41. Please see the Job Description for more details about this position.
