The City of Kentwood Public Works department is seeking qualified applicants to fill three new full-time Grounds Maintenance Worker positions. The Grounds Maintenance worker responsibilities include the following:

  • Participates in the maintenance of parks, grounds, trails, landscaping, irrigation, and cemetery.
  • Mows, trims, edges, fertilizes, and waters parks, playing fields, and other landscaped areas; weeds, prunes, mulches, fertilizes, and sprays trees, plants and shrubbery; prepares soil for planting; seeds and re-sods lawn areas.
  • Participates in forestry operations, including planting, pruning, trimming, cutting, and removal.
  • Installs, repairs, and maintains irrigation systems.
  • Inspects assigned areas; corrects or reports safety hazards; cleans and maintains park grounds, athletic fields, paved areas and paths; grooms and prepares ball fields and other park facilities for public use.
  • Maintains and performs repair work on a variety of park facilities and equipment.
  • Participate in cemetery operations.
  • Performs snow removal and salt application as required.
  • Operates and maintains a variety of hand and power landscaping tools and equipment; operates trucks, trailers, and tractors with attachments.
  • Observes safe work methods and uses safety equipment.
  • Responds to questions and complaints from the public.
  • Maintains basic records of work performed.
  • Contributes to the efficiency and effectiveness of the unit's service to its customers by offering suggestions and directing or participating as an active member of a work team.
  • Demonstrates courteous and cooperative behavior when interacting with public and staff; acts in a manner that promotes a harmonious and effective workplace environment.
  • Assists other Divisions of the Public Works Department as required.

Qualified applicants will possess the following:

  • High School Diploma/GED; AND
  • one (1) year of grounds maintenance experience; OR
  • an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Michigan CDL Driver's License, Class A with Tanker "N" endorsement within three months of employment.

This is a full-time position with excellent benefits. The hours are 7:30 am to 4:00 pm, Monday through Friday. The pay range for this position is 19.35 to $24.68. Please see the Job Description for more details about this position.
